With over 25 years of teaching and research experience in Economics, I am currently the Tax Research & Planning Officer at the Hawai'i Department of Taxation, where I worked as a Senior Economist for 7 years prior to that. In this role, I manage the Office of Tax Research & Planning, write statistical reports, provide revenue impact statements for legislative bills affecting the State, facilitate Council on Revenues and Tax Review Commission, and lead the tax research efforts in the Department. In addition, I own an economic consulting business specializing in forensic/litigation economics and provide expert testimony in the subject of economic damages. Previously, I have worked as an award-winning economics professor at Fordham University, Grinnell College and University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, where I continue to lecture part-time. I have also done economic consulting for various departments of the World Bank. My publications include articles in International Economic Review and Journal of International Economics.
I have Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in Economics from the University of Maryland at College Park and B.A. (Business/Management, Honors) and M.A. (Economics) degrees from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey.
